A Prayer for the Day
A prayer for the day is a short prayer that hands the coming hours to God and asks for his help with whatever they hold. A simple one is: "Lord, this day is yours. Give me what I need for it, help me love the people in it, and keep me close to you from start to finish. Amen."
This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24 (BSB)
You do not need a quiet hour or a perfect morning to pray. A prayer for the day can be said in the car, at the sink or between meetings, whenever you want to bring the day back to God. These five prayers follow the shape of an ordinary day, from the first look at the calendar to the moment you switch off the light. Use one, or come back to a different one as the hours go by.
A daily prayer of trust
Lord, I do not know everything today will bring, but I know you will be in it. I give you my plans, my worries and my hopes for these next hours. Give me what I need for today, not more and not less. Help me trust you with tomorrow so I can be fully present now. Let me notice your kindness in ordinary things, and let my life point to you in small ways. Amen.
A prayer for a busy day
Father, my list is long and the hours are short. Before I start, help me breathe. Show me what truly matters today and give me the grace to let the rest wait. Keep me calm when things go wrong and kind when I am rushed. Where I am tempted to cut corners, keep me honest. And when I reach the end of what I can do, let that be enough, because it is enough for you. Amen.
A prayer for the people I will meet today
God, you already know every person I will cross paths with today, the family at home, the colleagues and strangers, the person who will test my patience. Help me see each of them as someone you love. Give me a gentle word for the one who is struggling, and the humility to listen rather than talk. If I can make one person's day lighter, show me how. Amen.
A midday prayer to reset
Lord, I am halfway through the day and I have drifted from you already. Thank you that I can turn back at any moment. Calm what has been stirred up this morning. Forgive the sharp word, the impatience and the worry I let take over. Refresh my mind for the afternoon, steady my focus, and help me finish this day better than I started it. Amen.
A prayer to close the day
Father, the day is nearly over. Thank you for carrying me through it, in the parts I noticed and the parts I did not. I bring you what went well, and I leave with you what went wrong. Forgive me where I fell short, and help me forgive anyone who hurt me. Let me rest tonight knowing that tomorrow your mercy will be waiting for me again. Amen.

Questions people ask
What is a good prayer for the day?
A good prayer for the day is short and honest. Thank God for the day, give him the hours ahead and ask for what you need. For example: "Lord, this day is yours. Give me what I need for it, help me love the people in it and keep me close to you. Amen."
How often should I pray during the day?
There is no set rule. Some Christians pray at fixed times, such as morning, midday and evening, while others offer short prayers whenever a need or a moment of thanks comes up. Starting with one prayer at the beginning of the day and adding a quick pause at midday is a simple habit to build.
What does the Bible say about praying for each day?
In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus teaches us to ask for our daily bread, which shows God cares about our needs one day at a time. Matthew 6:34 encourages us not to worry about tomorrow, and Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that God's mercies are new every morning.
Can I pray the same prayer every day?
Yes. Praying the same words each day can help a prayer settle deep into your heart, much like the Lord's Prayer for many Christians. The key is to mean it. If a familiar prayer starts to feel automatic, slow down, pause after each line or add a sentence in your own words.
